This program, funded by the N.C. Arts Council, provided the opportunity for regional consortia of local arts councils to award project grants to artists in their regions. The grants supported professional artists in any discipline and at any stage in their careers to pursue projects that furthered their artistic and professional development.

Eligible for funding:

  • Creation of new work

  • Purchase of equipment and materials

  • Professional development workshops

  • Travel support for expenses associated with a professional opportunity such as participating in an exhibition or a conference

  • Development or upgrading of promotional materials such as brochures, DVDs, CDs, and websites

The grant amounts varied from region to region. Statewide, most grants were between $500 and $2,000. Art projects had to be completed within a one-year time frame.

Promotion:

Promoting the artist support grants were a big challenge. Due to the Coronavirus, all of our meetings with Mr. Jackson and other regional leaders were held virtually. Local artists could not apply for the grant in person because our office was closed to the public. The biggest problem was to figure out how to spread the word about the grants, when most people were staying at home. We all came together and devised an outstanding public relations and marketing campaign that allowed us to reach a lot of local artists. At the end of the grant campaigns, for 2020, 2021, and 2022, there were a total of 75 applications that were submitted.
